BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Police surrounded the home of Tracey Hannah, 46, and her 14-year-old daughter Whitney Hannah, both shot dead on Friday morning. 18-year-old Dean Brown has been charged with killing the women and injuring his ex-girlfriend, Shannon Hannah, also 18. It's a scene that has become too familiar to the people of Belleville, with seven homicides in the area in the past seven months. (12/03/2010) Photo by Mary Gaudet.

CABO DE LA VELA, Colombia - Until recently, the Guajira Peninsula was off limits to most visitors, and the Wayuu were notoriously independent people who made money through smuggling and drug-running. Today the area has started to open up, and many locals supplement their income through tourism, selling food and handicrafts and renting hammocks for the night to those with the means to travel. Tango in Buenos Aires
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Rodolfo Dinzel attracts amateurs and professionals from around the world to his studio in Buenos Aires, the city where tango was born and thrives. While a skilled technical dancer, Dinzel emphasizes the psychological demands of the dance in weekly discussions, challenging students to play with their own ideas about gender and sexuality.
BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Police wait for the arrival of Col. Russell Williams at his hearing in the first-degree murders of Jessica Lloyd and Cpl. Marie-France Comeau. 28-year-old Jessica Lloyd of Belleville disappeared in late January, and her body was discovered ten days later in Tweed, near Col. Williams' home.
STOCKDALE, Ont. - Janet Battaglio opened the gallery in the old Stockdale Mill in 2007, and today teaches yoga and paints on silk while representing numerous artists. The mill originally produced cider and grist for animals, but with extensive renovation is a cozy space for art classes and houses a restaurant for fine dining. (13/02/2010)

About Me
- Mary Gaudet
- I'm a photojournalist based in Toronto, Canada. I started working in the summer of 2010, shooting for weekly newspapers, magazines, and the web, after a year at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario. My background is in anthropology, and graduate studies took me to South America to look at social change and political empowerment. I try to bring together my anthropology and photography studies in my work, since at their best both are about looking closely to find revealing moments, so we can better understand one another's lives.
